Educational Approach

At Colégio Luso-Suíço, we support children from nursery through to primary school with a close, child-centred education developed in partnership with families. We value consistent routines, a calm environment and quiet high standards – so that each child can learn with confidence and develop autonomy throughout their journey.
We believe education begins early. It is in these first stages that children discover school as a safe place to explore, communicate and grow, building habits and relationships that will stay with them throughout life.
Our Pedagogical Project
The School’s Pedagogical Project is structured around an overarching theme defined for a three-year cycle, which is then developed into a specific sub-theme each school year. This framework guides the educational approach and helps ensure consistency: everyday experiences are not treated as isolated activities, but as part of a carefully designed journey that supports children’s holistic development and reflects the School’s pedagogical identity.
The four pillars of education
Our educational approach is inspired by the four pillars identified by UNESCO – learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be – and brings them to life each day through meaningful experiences and close support.
For children aged 1 to 3 years
Nursery
In the nursery, wellbeing comes first: a warm welcome, a smooth settling-in process and a trusting bond with the team. The day is organised around consistent routines that provide predictability and security, along with age-appropriate activities that support language, motor skills and social development – always with close care and attention.

Preschool
In preschool, reading and writing emerge in a playful and natural way, embedded in oral language development and early literacy. Children explore stories, rhymes, sounds and graphic marks, using materials that spark curiosity, while the teacher models reading and writing in everyday activities.
It also includes the Gira-Livros project, which encourages book sharing and family reading moments, strengthening children’s contact with different literary forms and helping reading habits develop naturally.

Primary School
In primary school, we consolidate academic foundations and build work habits that help children learn with structure: attention, perseverance, organisation and autonomy. We work on reading, writing and mathematics with balanced high standards and close support, respecting different learning rhythms and building confidence through real progress.
By the end of primary school, we want children to feel secure, responsible and confident – ready to continue their academic and personal journey in an increasingly demanding society.
Includes
Fresh meals every day
Meals are prepared at the school, with fresh food served every day and a varied, balanced menu. This is an integral part of the school’s daily care and routine.
