What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a martial art that combines elements of dance and fight and involves body and soul. It includes instruments and chanting, following a specific ritual during which a “game” takes place inside a circle formed by the players (called “roda”).
Capoeira and children
Capoeira will help the children’s integral, balanced development. It has several physical, psychological and social benefits.
This unique martial art allows the children to exercise with a complete and extensive physical activity that promotes coordination, balance, rhythm, flexibility, strength and resistance.
Capoeira incorporates specific gymnastics and acrobatic moves and is very well known for its strong sense of camaraderie and connection. It will help the children learn the value of respect and cooperation, sharing the efforts to make a common goal come true by acknowledging each other’s value and differences. It requires tolerance and solidarity.
António Braz (Cacará)
I’ve been practising Capoeira since 1999 and teach since 2003. I have practised several different martial arts, but Capoeira was the one that allowed me to find ways of expressing myself. As a Capoeira teacher, I have discovered my vocation to help other people. When working with children, I have soon realized that I faced a greater challenge, and that there was more room for improvement and continued work. I always try to encourage them to lead more active, healthy and happy lives while respecting their physical, mental and emotional abilities.
The children should be properly dressed for the activities; please talk to the teacher to find out about everything that is required.
